How to change your subscription access settings (IP address)

For those who subscribe to our subscription tutorials model, you’ll know that your tutorials will only work on your website, and that you won’t be able to make them available on other sites. In other words, each subscription is a single-domain/IP license.

When you first setup your subscription, there is no need to set your domain or IP, because it will be done automatically for you by the system… but only the first time.

If in the future your domain name or IP address changes, you’ll find your tutorials will no longer work… you’ll get an “Access Denied” message when trying to play a tutorial. The fix for this is really easy, and you can do it yourself from within your DemoWOlf account Client Area.

First, login to your Client Area, then click on Domains/Logos. Under the Domains section you’ll see your domain name and IP addresses listed… and an “Edit” link at the far right. Click “Edit”. Enter your new domain name (if it’s changed) and IP address (if it’s changed), then click “Submit”.

That’s it! The change is immediate, and your tutorials will be live once again.

cPanel Bootcamp Conference – Austin, TX – Oct 11-12, 2011

This week DemoWolf is exhibiting at the cPanel bootcamp conference in Austin, Texas. Over the last several months there have been several big announcements here at DemoWolf…

Acquisition of competitor DemoDemo
Last month DemoWolf acquired their long-time rival and competitor DemoDemo. Before the acquisition DemoWolf and DemoDemo were #1 and #2 in the hosting tutorial industry… both being very well known among web hosts. Since the acquisition, DemoWolf has become essentially the only provider of rebrandable hosting tutorials, helping thousands of hosting companies worldwide in drastically reducing their support costs.

Addition of Video and Text-based tutorials
Two months ago at the HostingCon conference in San Diego, California, DemoWolf announced that all their 5,000+ tutorials are now available in two additional formats… Video (MP4) and Text (with Images). Prior to the announcement DemoWolf had been focusing solely on Flash-based (SWF) tutorials, but with the increasing desire to provide tutorials in a YouTube channel, a version supported by the iPad (or other devices that do not support Flash) or in a text version for inclusion in a knowledgebase, we felt it necessary to expand our product offering to meet this demand. Now all 5,000+ tutorials are available in all three formats, all of which will be provided with the web host’s logo branded in the tutorials. The logo will be shown in the opening and closing frames of both the Flash and Video formats, and as a watermark in all images within the Text/Image format.

Increased Automation
What people still may not know is that when hosting companies order tutorials from DemoWolf, the system we’ve developed that brands the tutorials with the hosts logo is fully automated. Once an order is placed, the host is required to upload their logo to their DemoWolf account. After a few clicks, the host will then be presented with a link to download their newly ordered tutorials, fully branded with their logo. This process takes only minutes for Flash and Text-based formats, and a little longer for Video formats (sometimes several hours depending on the number of tutorials ordered).

DemoWolf acquires DemoDemo.com, iDemos.com

(Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) – DemoWolf has just announced the acquisition of competitor DemoDemo.com.

DemoDemo.com (DemoDemo) is a direct competitor to DemoWolf, offering Flash-based support tutorials to hosting companies. Starting in 2002, DemoDemo was in fact the first company to offer a “re-branding” service, whereby they created sets (or series) of multiple tutorials for specific hosting applications, and offered to re-brand them for any hosting company that purchased them. Hosting companies would then place these “branded” Flash tutorials on their websites… usually in their support pages… and their clients would have the ability to watch videos showing them how to do common tasks within their hosting control panels. Because these tutorials could be sold many times over, DemoDemo was able to offer them at a substantial discount to what it would normally cost a hosting company to develop them in-house. DemoDemo videos are simple, concise, and to-the-point.

“With this acquisition, there’s no question we are the dominant player in the hosting tutorials market” says Rob Moore, founder and President of DemoWolf. “Now we must refocus our efforts to producing newer tutorials so our clients continue to see us as their partners in support… providing tutorials for the latest hosting-related technologies.”

DemoWolf was started in 2005 with the goal of becoming the #1 provider of support tutorials for hosting companies. With a current library of over 5,300 video tutorials (compared to DemoDemo’s 2,000), and providing tutorials not only in Flash format but the increasingly popular video (MP4) format and “text with images” format, DemoWolf has become the clear choice for up-to-date and quality tutorials for hosting companies.

DemoWolf’s tutorials are different than DemoDemo’s in that they are offered in “Voice” versions… Flash video tutorials that include professional voice narration for a cleaner more professional experience for the viewer. In addition, DemoWolf offers all their tutorials in Flash, Video (MP4) and Text formats, whereas DemoDemo currently only offers the Flash format.

It is not clear yet how DemoDemo will be integrated into DemoWolf’s plans moving forward, but for the time being both will continue to operate as separate business entities. DemoDemo’s former owner Vito Ceniti will be providing consulting services to both DemoWolf and DemoDemo, so will remain fairly close to the company he started.

In addition to acquiring DemoDemo, DemoWolf has also acquired the domain name idemos.com. Specific plans for idemos.com have not yet been disclosed.

This is not the first time DemoWolf has acquired a competitor. In 2008 DemoWolf acquired two separate companies, OnlyDemos.com and CheapDemos.com, both of which have since been integrated into DemoWolf.

Why do more people use Live Chat than the Telephone?

We’ve been offering Live Chat now for several years, using www.providesupport.com. Even though we have a support ticketing system, Flash tutorials and a telephone number, it seems most people prefer to use Live Chat (with us anyways).

And in general when I’m browsing the net, where “Live Chat” used to be a nice feature of online shops, it now seems to have become the norm. Everyone is offering Live Chat now.

I can understand people wanting instant answers… I’m one of them. But then why are people more inclined to click a Live Chat button than dial a company’s 800 number? Wouldn’t it be just as quick to talk to a support person on the phone rather than type your issue into their chat window?

I’m a strong advocate in providing as many forms of support, through as many channels as possible, to make sure clients get the help they need when they want it, and how they want it. That’s why we offer support through tickets, telephone, live chat, a knowledgebase, and of course online flash-based or video tutorials. I think providing good, timely and quality support to clients is an essential part of growing your business. I’m just intrigued by the growth of Live Chat, and how more and more companies are offering it… especially (but certainly not exclusively) in the web hosting industry.

If the reason for this is that people want instant answers rather than having to wait for a response to their ticket or email, then why does Live Chat seem to be more popular than picking up the telephone and calling? Both would be considered “instant” forms of support (provided the support tech on the other end has the answers the client needs), but I’d say Live Chat wins out over telephone support by a good 2-1 ratio. Why? Is it simply that our client base is more comfortable “talking by typing”? Is Live Chat “perceived” to be more instant than a phone? Or are clients perhaps expecting their answers digitally, thus making it easier to receive them through Live Chat (i.e. maybe they’re expecting a link directing them to a web page that solves their problem)?

Personally I like using Live Chat. As a provider of support, Live Chat makes it easy to carry on multiple conversations at once, whereas that’s near impossible on the phone… even with multiple lines. Live Chat also provides an easy way to document a call or answer. That is, it’s easy to save a Live Chat transcript for referring to later… not so easy to save a voice conversation.

The biggest advantage to Live Chat as I see it, is the ability to share links. With a library of Flash Tutorials available to solve most common support issues, when a client initiates a Live Chat and his/her question can be answered with one of our tutorials, it’s dead easy to copy/paste a link to that tutorial into the Live Chat window, and in most cases, the chat ends there… the clients goes off to watch the video and their question is answered. It’s a great way to not only offer instant help to your customers, but to also promote the use of readily available online tutorials.

What can be more difficult through Live Chat though, is expressing myself and explaining things in greater detail. Those are times when a phone call might be an easier and quicker way to get my point across.
